A fun, low-key event in which the kids will walk their own maximum laps around the school, cheered by friends and family, for the pleasure and pride of collecting per-lap donations which will go to funding programs we love at DFES. Of course, straight donations and sponsorship from other friends and family are great.

WALKATHON 2008

NOVEMBER 15th

Get ready… Get set… Go! for the third annual Dianne Feinstein Elementary School Walkathon, Saturday November 15th, from 10AM to 1PM in the school’s yard. This is one of our big fundraisers and a fun way for us to raise money for the programs at our school. We will also be having a hot dog lunch box sale and bake sale during the event.

HOW IT WORKS:

Send in the SIGN UP FORM! (link on right)

You and your child(ren) ask your friends, neighbors, co-workers and relatives (even those who live far away) to either:

1. Make a direct donation to the school on behalf of your child.
2. Make a pledge of money for each ¼ of a mile that your child walks in two hours. There is no minimum pledge and the donor may put a maximum on a pledge amount; e.g. $1.00 per lap up to $20.00. 
3. Flat rate donations are equally welcome and can save you time if you collect them when the donor signs the pledge sheet.

Have fun looking for sponsors.  Here are some ways to get pledges and direct donations:

1. Take the information that we are giving you and send out a personal e-mail to all of your friends and family in-town and out-of-town. About two weeks after the e-mail, send a follow-up e-mail or make a telephone call.
2. Visit and/or call neighbors, friends and relatives. Show them the Walkathon information page and have them fill out the pledge sheet.
3. Take a pledge sheet and the Walkathon information page to work and ask co-workers to contribute. Post a pledge sheet in the kitchen or other common area at work.
4. Ask your employer to match the contributions you collect. This doubles the amount you raise. Wells Fargo, Dreyer’s, Charles Schwab, Levis Strauss, Bank of America and other companies have matching donation programs.

Collect direct donations as you go along. Checks should be made payable to the DFES PTA. You can pick up more letters and pledge sheets at school in the Front Office.

We will have a rainy day plan in place just in case…

What to tell your friends and family about the school and the Walk-A-Thon

My school, Dianne Feinstein Elementary School, is holding its third Walkathon on November 15th.

My school friends and I will be walking to raise money for our school.

At the Walkathon I will walk as many times as I can around our school which is ¼ of a mile. (On the average children complete between 10 and 20 laps)

Will you please make a pledge to the school for the laps I will walk at the Walkathon? Or if you prefer, you can make your tax-deductible contribution now. Either way, you’ll help Dianne Feinstein Elementary School fund programs we feel are essential for a quality education. Thank you!
